Humorous Aspects In Junior Games

The junior football games at Kensington Park on Saturday were not without a certain amount of incident and humour. The Whakapara-Maunga-karamea game had not been in progress more than a few moments when a Kararnea player was brought down forcibly. This war. not unusual and therefore not worthy of recording, but the rare factor was that he was brought down by one of his own team mates, who apparently had his eye full of green—the green of his opponents’ jerseys and the green and black of his own team.

CORRECT FOOTBALL APPAREL Although Iheso two players were properly arrayed, one player in (he ’Karamoa team was wearing exactly the same jersey as his opponents. It is time either club or union officials stepped in and made it compulsory for the members of the various teams to wear correct jerseys. There are too many players in the lower grades who .are wearing colours often far removed from their proper uniform.

FLOWING TRESSES Doubts regarding sex were raised by spectators in the junior game between Fipiwai and Mangakahia at Kensington Park. No matter on what part of the field play was in progress, there could be seen streaming in the wind, a mop of thick, long, jet-black hair which on closer inspection proved to belong to a Pipiwai forward. Ornamental it . would have been on a woman, and on a man it was so distinguishing a feature that on the owner were the eyes of most of the spectators. Unfortunately he was not a very good forward, although a trier all the time, and his mistakes provided the spectators with plenty of entertainment which would have been unnoticed except for his refusal to. answer the hairdresser’s prayer.
