Otaika
Mr and Mrs Wally Forth and their son Johnnie have returned to their home in Otaika after a pleasant tour of Australia. Miss Forth is with her mother, pending her coming marriage. , Mrs Wright returned from Auckland, where she attended the Anglican Mission promotions, when her son, Mr Cecil Wright, attained his captaincy. “Uncle Cecil” is enjoying a short respite at home, before being transferred to Wellington. Our newlyweds, Mr and Mrs Bert Marsh, have returned from a month’s tour of the southern parts of the North Island. Mrs A. B. Burton was a visitor to Otaika for the “Amy Middleton” evening, and spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs G. Edge, senr. Mr Guard, of Takapuna, is the guest of Mrs Tom Edge. Valedictory.
On Thursday evening, Mr and Mrs Warren and family were farewelled at their home by a large party of wellwishers from Puwera, Otaika, and neighbouring districts. Card games and competitions were entered into with zest. During the evening, Mr Steedman extolled the virtues of the Warren family, and expressed general regret at their coming departure, presenting them on behalf of the company with an electric kettle and a reading lamp for Mr and Mrs Warren, and a box of chocolates for the girls. Mr Warren suitably responded. Tho ladies of the party provided a dainty supper, and the evening terminated with • farewells and expressions of goodwill for the family’s future. Pre-Nuptial Dance. Saturday evening was a scene of gaiety at the Otaika Hall, where local residents and numerous visiters congregated at a dance in honour of Miss Amy Middleton, in view of her approaching marriage to Mr Arnold Morgan. Mr Albert Tavinor acted as M.C., and music was provided by Clarke’s Orchestra, extras being rendered by Miss Forth and Messrs. Len Franklin and Bill Howie. Mr T. Pitman entertained; with a yodelling song, being recalled by encore for a further contribution. Supper was provided by the ladies. Mr Steedman made a speech conveying to the couple the good wishes of the district for their future happiness, and asking them to accept the numerous gifts from their friends. Mr Arnold Morgan expressed thanks on behalf of his fiancee and himself. After the singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows,” dancing was resumed until midnight.
