Simplifiction of Rail Freight Charges
[Per Press Association. — Copyright.] WELLINGTON, This Day. An announcement concerning freight charges was made by the General Manager of Railways. Mr G. H. Mackley, in an address at the Victoria University College. j Speaking of action taken by the Be- ] parlment to meet new conditions, Mr Mackley said that a now and interesting method—at least to the Railway Department—would be brought into operation soon, when the four classifications under which general merchandise had hitherto been charged, would bo reduced to two. The higher classes. A and B, would be eliminated, leaving only the lower classes, C and D. This would mean not only a concession to the community generally, but a long looked for simplification of railway tariff. >
