Westfield Beef Lowest Since 1937

Values for beef were heavy at ihe Westfield stock sale , yesterday, and levels fell to the lowest since July, 1937.
Quotations ranged from 16/- to 32/-, and individual prices were fully 10/ to 15/- a head lower in sympathy. A downward trend was also apparent in the sheep sale, the entry being very heavy. A large yarding of poor quality calves came forward, and prices showed no improvement on last week’s. The pig sale was brighter in tone, and tnost sections were quoted fully firm. * - Top Price for Waipu Line. Top price for ox beef was made by a line from Mr. J. McLeod, Waipu, which sold to £l4. An offering from Mr.,G, Lendrum, Te Kopuru, made to £ 11/12/6. Dalgety & Co., Ltd., report as follows: ‘ Sheep.—Heavy prime wethers, 25/to 25/6; medium, 22/G to 24/6; lighter, 20/-. to 22/3; light and unfinished, 14/to 18/-; lighter, 12/6 to 13/6; other ewes, 3/- to 12/-, Lambs.—Medium ‘quality, 18/- to 19/-; lighter, 16/-..t0 17/6; light, 14/- to 15/6; small and plain, 8/- to 12/-. Calves.—Runners, £3 to £4/10/-; heavy vealers, £3/10/- to £4/2/-; medium, £2/10/-. to £3/6/-; light, £2 to £2/8/-; small, £l/14/- to £l/18/-; smaller, £l/5/- to £l/12/-; unfinished and bucket-fed, IC/- to £l/1/-; bobby calves, 8/- to 13/-. / Pigs.—Heavy baconers, £3/18/- to £4/2/-; medium, £3/11/- to £3/16/-; light, £3/3/- to £3/7/-; heavy porkers, £2/11/- to £2/18/*;- medium, £2/4/to £2/8/-; light, £l/16/- to £2/2/-; smaller, £l/7/r to £l/13/-.
