Government To Market All Lemons

As the result of discussions between the Government and the New Zealand Citrus Council, representative of the growers, the Government has now taken the responsibility of marketing all lemons, and has assured the growers of the stabilised price. The Director of Internal Marketing, Mr F. R. Picot, announced today that by the means adopted it should be possible to avoid alternate periods of over supply, with consequent low returns to the producers and the corresponding harm done by the reverse position of the very short supplies and high prices. Mr Picot also issued an assurance that with a close watch on the. matter of supplies -and maximum prices, such difficulties as those experienced during the last few weeks wpuld be immediately overcome.
