(Received 11.30 a.m.) GENEVA, May 23

It is understood Russian wishes to use the Aaland Islands in wartime as submarine bases for cutting off the vital iron and steel trade between Sweden and Germany. Russia also fears Germany might capture the islands from Sweden and use them as bases for attacking Soviet warships from Leningrad.
