Pedigree Jerseys Offered At Maimgatapere
Despite the unfavourable season 70 head of stock submitted at Mr S. Irwin Crookes’s sale of Kiteroa pedigree Jersey cattle came forward in excellent condition today. Seven years ago, Mr Crookes commenced building up his herd with two bulls, one from the island of Jersey, and the : other from America, as the foundation. He held his first annual clearance sale four years ago and today’s sale brought forward the largest number yet submitted to the public at Mr Crookes’s Maungatapere farm. There are more than 260 Jerseys on the farm, and it was on account of the unusually dry season that the large sale head altogether), was necessary. Ten bulls were offered today, out of the 47 kept on the farm. Particular interest centred about the bulls, which were of a very high standard. At the request of several of last year’s purchasers, Mr Crookes had included a large number of young stock in today’s offering. Bidding this morning was not very brisk at the start, this being due to the retarding of stock sale activites in the past few weeks following the dry spell.
