Late Start Bogey Among Bay Seniors

Junior teams in the Bay competition being far ahead of the seniors so far as fitness and training are concerned, it seems fitting that this week’s column should be devoted largely to juniors and general playing tips.

Before individual players are dis- 7 cussed, it is necessary to draw attention to the lateness at which a number of the main games commence. This is entirely due to the late arrival of the visiting team, though on one occasion Ohaeawai kept a visiting side waiting for a long time.

However, as has been stated, the fault lies largely with visiting fifteens, ana it is up to the captains and managers of these teams to see that they arrive on the field on time, as it is not in the best interests of the game to finish a match in the dark. Worst Offenders. Kaikoho and Ohaeawai seniors seem to be among the worst offenders at this, and it is to be hoped that in the future they will be on the field when the first whistle blows. Stricter discipline is necessary in the Ohaeawai senior team. In Saturday's game there was far too much shepherding, and unless this practice is stopped at training, there is no hope of checking it on the competitive field.

The same team should see that its grounds are properly marked out.

At the last match played on this ground, a considerable amount of time was wasted while the captains marked out the field.

OUTSTANDING JUN 10RS. Possessing plenty of young players who arc perfectly fit and very keen, the Bay should ibis season be able to select a junior team to stand alongside any junior fifleon in Northland. Playing for the Kaikoho team Tom Dickcson has proved himself to bo one cf the most reliable players in the Bay. He is an excellent loose forward, who can anticipate every movement, and act accordingly. Ho will go far if carefully watched. W. Wara, hooker in the Kaikohc B team, is another excellent footballer. He is a great grafter, and very versatile in the backs as well as in the pack. Oromahoe possesses three trustworthy grafters in the Apiata , brothers, who have been responsible for most of the sensational attacks made by this team. They are a great combination.

Amongst the junior backs, J. Smith, of Kaikohe. is one of the best. He plays a very reliable game, and can cut his way in or out of any position. Ho is exceptionally fast, and is a decided asset to any team, senior of junior, A boy who should find himself in the rep. team this season is C. Pcra, who is a very reliable forward. Ho possesses great stamina, and judges his tactics correctly. As there are so many juniors who have put up excellent performances, it is intended to occasionally devote this column to them.
