King’s Birthday Hockey Tourney

Full teams of 11-a-side will participate in the King’s Birthday tournament of the Whangarei Hockey Association, to be played on June 5.

Games will consist of two tenminute spells with one minute interval.

As was the case last year, the tourney will be run on the rounds system, .a vast improvement on the knock-out competition. The advantage lies in the fact that each learn will be guaranteed a full day’s hockey. The competition will be played in grades, the grading of teams being the same as that applying in the regular competitions. Nominations close on May 30. An extra ground at Kensington Park is being brought into use for the tournament, and work will be commenced shortly on No. 3 ground, which was also pressed into service for the King's Birthday competitions last year. Arrangements for the tourney are in the hands of a committee consisting of Mrs Presswood, Messrs Izocl, Johnson, Leech, McKoy and the president and secretary.
