Mangapai

Friends of Mr and Mrs A. D. King, formerly of Mangapai' and now of Whangarei, met at a social and dance in Mangapai Hali last Tuesday. The first portion of the evening was devoted to dancing, with a few bridge enthusiasts enjoying a friendly game in an adjoining room.

Alter supper Mr P. Carter spoke of the good qualities of Mr and Mrs King, particularly mentioning Mr King’s services’ as secretary of the school committee. The social club, so popular in Mangapai during the depression, owed its success largely to Mr King’s organisation and hard work. In fact whenever a working bee was called Mr King was always one of the first volunteers. In presenting Mr and Mrs King with a cheque from the residents of Mangapai, Mr Carter voiced the feelings of all present when he wished the guests of honour every happiness in their new home in Whangarei. Mr King thanked Mr Carter and the residents for the gift and good wishes.
