LEVIN, This Day,
Five boys absconded from the WerarcLi Training Farm at about 6.15 p.m. on Saturday. Their disappearance has been followed by a series of events which must be attributed to persons with little regard for other people’s property. A car belonging to Mr E. Webber, of Levin, shortly afterwards was reported missing, and was recovered in charge of two of the boys at Hawera yesterday. It is understood that the three other boys headed across country.
Foroutawhao hall was broken into and sugar and the contents of essence bottles strewn over the floor, which was also littered with broken crockery. An unsuccessful attempt was made to start a car in 'a nearby garage.
It was subsequently reported that three bicycles were missing from Foxton last night. The Rev. Father Jensen’s eightcylinder saloon car disappeared from the precincts of St. Patrick’s Presbytery, Palmerston North. The three boys are still at large.
