Success Of Bay Pageant Assured
“Your sub-zone is displaying a spirit that is not surpassed and hardly even equalled in New Zealand.” commented Mr. J. W. Heenan, a director of the National Centennial Council, when, he met the Bay of Islands Centennial executive in Kaikohe.
“Already you are pageant-minded, and your sub-zone is one at least which has caught the celebration’s approach,” he stated. Continuing, the speaker stated that throughout New Zealand emphasis had been placed upon memorials almost tc the exclusion of celebrations.
Events such as the proposed pageant at Waimate North, if held in Wellington, would even overshadow the Exhibition itself, Mr. Heenan said.
“A cavalcade of the past is a very noticeable display which will create interest far beyond the boundary of Northland,” he said. Nowhere else in New Zealand had he found men more interested in the pageantry side of New Zealand history than in the Bay of Islands. “Perhaps this is because you undoubtedly live in the spot which is most soaked in the history of New Zealand, and one can well imagine the W'onderful success it is going to prove,” he concluded.
