Impossible to Arrive Before Wednesday

(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 13

Officials believe that it will be impossible for the Empress of Australia to arrive before Wednesday, even if the weather improves immediately. The officials said that there would be no new alterations in the programme until the time of arrival is certain. Into Fog Again. After progressing five miles during the night through fog, the Empress of Australia reached clear weather,, but was entirely surrounded by ice-floes, which were bumping her sides, while the escort cruisers followed along a sea lane in the vessel’s wake. The Queen said that she was sorry for the people “who have travelled miles to see us.”

Captain Meikle changed the course to avoid thicker ice, and encountered more fog, through which the vessel proceeded fitfully, being later halted.

It was officially announced that the liner at 9 a.m. yesterday (Eastern summer time) was still 1080 miles east of Quebec. Divine Service. The purser conducted divine service because Captain Meikle could not leave the bridge. Their Majesties joined in the hymns, which the Queen chose. Special prayers were offered for the Royal Family; Lord Tweedsmuir, Governor-General of Canada; Mr Roosevelt; Empire legislators; and sailors.
