Ramblers Defeated When Playing One Man Short
Playing one man short. Ramblers suffered defeat at the hands of Mata when the two sides met at Springfield on Saturday. A late start necessitated two thirtyminute spells being played. Right from the start Ramblers missed Sloane, their bully, who was absent; nevertheless they fought well and mads a fairly even contest of the encounter. If anything, Mata had slightly the stronger team. The first goal came when R. McCulloch netted for Mata after nine minutes’ play. Penalty Bully. A penalty bully against D. Barber, of Mata, was tt*e outstanding feature of the first half. It was awarded for obstruction when a shot at the net was being taken and undoubtedly prevented a goal from being scored. N. Johnson took the bully for Ramblers, but after the first play-off the ball was sent behind from Barber. In the second bully, Johnson obstructed Barber and spoilt any chances that Ramblers might have had of improving their position. play was recommenced at the 25yard line. Despite hard work, however. neither team scored again before half-time sounded. Even Play. Even play marked the commencement of the second half, but after 13 minutes Price got away and with a piece of nice work secured Mata’s second goal.
Ramblers were kept on the defensive for the rest of the time. Their position would have been vastly improved had the team been at full strength.
In Dixon, a new player, Ramblers have an acquistion. He played a good game. Dinsdale, also a newcomer to Ramblers, though playing only his second game of hockey, showed good form and great promise. No further scores were recorded, and the game ended '2—o • in Mata’s favour. Messrs P. Campbell and P. Whittle controlled the game.
