Historic Epic Shown At the Plaza
Amusements
One of the most dramatic screenings ever to visit Whangarei, “Yellow Jack,” starring Robert Montgomery and Virginia Bruce, will be remembered as a unique picture. To the Plaza Theatre has been granted the privilege of showing this historical film. Dealing with a dramatic phase in the life of the United States of America, “Yellow Jack” is a vivid depiction of the ravages of yellow fever, and of the heroism shown by a party of soldiers who volunteered to sacrifice their lives in an experiment to combat the disea'se. Robert Montgomery lakes the principal role alongside Virginia Bruce. Lewis Stone makes a perfect actor as the historic Major Walter Reed, the man who finally managed to isolate the fever. Background for the picture is a tropical army encampment at the close of the Spanish-American war, with an army medical commission facing almost insurmountable obstacles in their efforts to ascertain the cause of the disease. Together with this outstanding picture is a fine selection of supports, including comedy, news and musical reviews.
