Australian Rider for New Zealand
The Sydney jockey A. Stanton sailed for New Zealand during the weekend. He will settle in the Auckland district. His good record in Australia should assure him of a successful career in the Dominion.
For Awapuni. Sporting Song was a trifle sore after contesting the Egrnont Steeplechase, in which he did not jump as well as usual. However, the trouble is not serious, and he will be on hand at Awapuni to contest the steeplechase event on Friday.
Sly Fox Back. Sly Fox. who had a run of successes in the spring until he failed to see out the distance in the New Zealand Cup. is in work again at Gisborne. The four-year-old son of Hunting Song and Gaze is. a good galloper, but in the past ho pulled lon hard to succeed over a long journey.
For New Stud. Solicitor-General, who failed to find a buyer in Sydney, has been purchased by Mr K. Austin, and the Blandford horse will in future stand at Mr Austin’s recently-formed Inglewood stud farm, about 15 miles from Christchurch. Several New Zealand bookings have already been made, and two are to be sent over from Australia by Mr P. H. Osborne. Handily Weighted. Charade is nicely weighted with 10.(3 in the Rangatira Hurdles, to be run at the Manawatu meeting on Friday. In her last couple of starts over hurdles, she won the Grafton Hurdles at the Ellerslie summer meeting with 11.1. and ran second in carrying 11.5 to Hopalong (9.3) in the Auckland Hurdles, the final day at Ellerslie. As she had a race on the flat at Easter, Charade should be in good shape this week.
Silver Sight’s Campaign. Considerable interest will be attached to the opening of Silver Sight's northern campaign at Manawatu this week. He has been awarded 10.11 in the Manawatu Steeplechase, to be run next Friday. In the south, Silver Sight has run up a record of three firsts and three seconds in his last eight starts, his most recent efforts being at the Riccarton Easter meeting, where ho won the hurdles on the first day with 11.11 and ran second to Jewish Lad (9.2) when carrying 12.7 the second day. Jewish Lad went on to win at South Canterbury at his next start. Silver Sight will have many followers at Manawatu on Friday.
