Britain To Preserve Places Of Beauty
(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 11. A select committee of the House of Lords met to consider a Bill promoted by the National Trust for the Preservation of Places of Beauty and Interest, and to obtain further powers in respect of the transfer of land to the trust. The general aim of the Bill is to enable the trust, in proper cases, to acquire and procure permanently famous or beautiful country houses which are not in the hands of absolute owners, but of tenants for life, who are not free as are absolute owners to make the arrangements they think proper for the preservation of the property.
