Maungaturoto Masquerade Ball

A witch, period lady, Chinaman, Maori lady and scarecrow were among the gay costumes present at the fancy dress ball held in the Maungaturoto public hall on Tuesday evening. A successful and enjoyable evening was spent, the proceeds being in aid of the Maungaturoto Queen Carnival funds. Excellent music was supplied and Mr H. Haughton and Mr Bert Watts performed the duties of M.C. Prize winners were as follows.— Best dressed lady, “Period Lady,'’ Miss McKinney; best dressed man, “Chinaman,” Mr G. Runciman; most original costumes, “Witch,” Mr A, Cullen; “Maori Lady,” Mr P. Mincher. Most humorous costume, “Scai’ecrow, ’ Mrs M. I. Cullen. National costume, “Spanish Couple,” Miss B. Snelling and Mr T. Snelling. Best dressed couple, “Golliwogs,” Mr and Mrs A. Flower. A special prize donated by Miss McKinney was won by Miss W. Grant as a Dresden Shepherdess.
