rpHERE does not seem to be much ado in social affairs this week, but nevertheless there have been one or two parties for visitors to the town. On Saturday evening Mrs J. G. Robertson gave a delightful party at her x’esidence, Mill Road. Gorgeous chrysanthemums from her lovely garden decorated the lounge and drawing room. For a change, trump whist was played, and after supper there was much fun playing housie-housie. Mrs Robertson, wearing a royal blue lace gown, received her guests, 'among whom were Mesdames Harold Cotter, J. Spencer Day, Hart (Auckland), Grey Roberts (Westport), Alan Hart, L. J. Waddell, N. F. Stead, Eric Harrison, Misses Yorke (Sydney), M. Cleary (Kaikohe) and Evelyn Cleary.
On Tuesday evening the Welfare Committee of the Whangarei Women’s Club gave an enjoyable battle bridge party at the club rooms, Rust Lane. The social hall and supper room were beautifully decorated with autumn leaves and autumn-tinted hydrangeas. Among those present were Mesdames A. H. Crane, H. C. Rishworth, H. W. Crawford, H. E. G. Smith, B. A. Wolff, W. Wood, A. M. Long, A. Marsden Woods, J. Peat, J. G. Robertson, G. Woolley, D. O’Donoghue, Coutts (Auckland), J. G. Campbell, B. Miller, R. H. Packwood, T. Mitchell, H. A. Good, G. W. Bennett, W. E. Wood, A. Almond, W. J. Orr, W. H. Millington, A. R. Ryder, G. N. Morris, T. J. Evans, C. B. Bevins, Harold Cotter, H. N. Geissler, Frank Higginson, Grey Roberts (Westport), R. D, Speer, A. Drever, K. Radclifle and Miss Swayne. The prizes were
won by Mesdames Gelssier, Wood, an Mr and Mrs Almond.
On Wednesday evening Mrs Erie Harrison, wearing a black and rush tunic frock, entertained at mah jongg. The players were Mesdames Harold Cotter, D. Singer, N. F, Stead, L. Cooke, W. J. Orr and the Mieses Evelyn Cleary, Yorke (Sydney) and Connie Harrison.
On Friday evening Mrs R. H. Fackwood gave a most enjoyable contract bridge party at her residence, Kauika Road. Beautiful chrysanthemums and autumn leaves made the drawing room and lounge very gay, and the hostess received her guests wearing a smart prune geoi'gette frock. Among those thex-e were Mesdames J. W. Hall. F. Pope (Wellington), H. A. Good, J. A. S. Mac Kay, J. G. Campbell, G. N. Morris. R. Laurie, R. C. Napier, A. J. Coutts (Auckland), G. W. Bennett, D. O’Donoghue and J. Spencer Day.
Mrs R. K. Trimmer is spending the school holidays at her residence, Lang’s Beach.
Mrs A. J. Coutts, Remuera, Auckland, is the guest of her sister, Mrs R. C. Napier, Main’s Avenue.
Mrs Reg Henry, Great South Road, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs A. H. Crane, Ngararatunua.
Mrs F. Nutsford, Oakleigh, has left to spend a holiday at Holensville and Rotorua.
Mrs W. T. Sunnan, of Nixon Street, and Mrs W. H. Millington, Mill Road, are visiting Auckland.
