Fitness Warrants; Taranaki Opinion
Testing for warrants of fitness in Christchurch is carried out by the Christchurch City Council at its own testing station and the authorities of garages in the Christchurch metropolitan area to issue warrants have been cancelled as from April 1. It is expected that the City Councils in Dunedin and Wanganui will take up this work about May 1; but garage proprietors in these towns will carry on until they receive official notication from the Minister of Transport that their authorities are revoked. The Automobile Association (Taranaki) some time ago declared itself as unequivocally opposed to the system of a testing station operated by the municipal authority and the cancellation of garages’ authorities. However, there now appears to be a tendency towards a reversal of that opinion. Mo-
toring opinion generally appears to be swinging towards a favourable view of the municipal system, as in opera-, tion in Christchurch. It has the very
real advantage of allowing full supervision by the authorities of the issue of warrants and of thus preventing any abuse of privilege.
