RACING NEWS

From Australia. D. B. McGregor, who scored his first win in' New Zealand on Gold Chase at Hawera, did his previous riding in Australia. Willie Win to Resume.

Willie Win, who has been on the easy list for the past three months, will probably resume racing at the Grand National meeting.

For Wanganui. Journet is making excellent progress in his training at Hastings, where he is being prepared foivthe Century Hurdles at Wanganui on June 3. Another smart Hastings jumper, Highgrader, is also, booked for Wanganui.

Form More Solid. , While Notium has never been very solid, he is a useful galloper on his day, and in being placed at his last four starts he has shown his most consistent form for a long time. Taking a line through Homily's decisive win on Saturday last, Notium should have fair prospects on his trip to Waikato and Auckland. Will Do Better. Very often age improves a horse out of sight. One who - takes the eye as likely to be in this category is The Cardinal, only a fair hack at the moment, but possibly a good cup winner next season. This handsome Night Raid three-year-old comes at. the right end of his races, and should develop into a fine stayer.

Student Prince Has Prospects. Back to hurdling at To Rapa, Student Prince would only need to jump reasonably well to make his presence felt. His third to Wildflower and Entail in the Davidson Handicap at Egmont was his best performance on the flat to date, and in the past ho has run most of his best hurdle races when fresh..

For Open Sprint. Brazilian is working in attractive fashion at Takanini and promises to be in first-class order for his engagement

in the open sprint at Te Rapa next Saturday. The Jong straight will suit him, as he is a resolute finisher.

Round Up in Good Condition. Round Up has accepted for the President's Handicap at Te Repa next Saturday, and his weight (10.4) will not prove prohibitive, as he is un-. doubtedly the best handicap performer in the Dominion this season. No fault can be found with his condition, and he does not appear to be the least affected by a strenuous season’s racing under big imposts.

El Meyncll at New Plymouth

A further addition to H. Dulieu’s team is the former Ellerslie trained El Meynell, a four-year-old gelding by Hunting Song from Haligan. El Meynell, who was a winner in Australia last spring, showed considerable promise last winter, when he won at the Waipa and Wellington meetings in good hack company. El Meynell reappeared at Franklin last Saturday, but did not show up. He is entered for the Te Rapa meeting next Saturday. and may show improvement on his Pukekohe form.

Takanini Horses For Te Kapa. The Waikato Racing Club's meeting at Te Rapa next Saturday will attract several Takanini trainers, and present indications are that E. Pope will take Saccone and Romani; C. Morse, Hunter's Rose. Ivy Willonyx and Valimeen; J. Burgess, High Sea and Brazilian; R. Miller, Inver and To Poto; F. Smith. Anion. Valamito and Round Up; and A. Tinker, Bachelor King and Vaalsstar. With such a strong representation, Takanini stables will hold a strong hand, and should increase the district’s total of wins for the season, which is now 73.

Originally at Trentham. Sky Pilot, who will now be one of the favourites for his Northern engagements. was originally raced by Mr

T. R. George, who won three races on the flat with him at Nelson and Marlborough when he was a three-year-old. George picked Sky Pilot on ac-

count of his breeding for a jumper late on, but. receiving a satisfactory offer from Major G. F. Hutton, he accepted it.
