Reduced Charge For Timber Royalty

Application for a 25 per cent reduction in timber royalty carting charges in the Pipiwai area was made to the Whangarei County Council yesterday by C. R. Lovatt and Sons, sawmillers, Whangarei.

The county clerk, Mr H. C. Hemphill, stated that a recent Supreme Court action in the Palmerston North district, in which a miller refused to pay royalties, had resulted adversely to the miller.

20 Per Cent Reduction. The chairman, Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay, said he had discussed the matter with Mr Lovatt. While he would not be in favour of a fixed price, he suggested a reduction of 20 per cent on the existing royalty of id per mile per 100 superficial feet. “Mr Lovatt. c already pays heavy traffic license fees,” he added. Winter Road BamageCr. F. Elliott opposed .any reduction “With the approach of winter there will be increasing damage to the roads,” he said. Any damage done by heavy traffic would already be compensated for by existing charges, said Mr Mac Kay. The chairman’s suggestion was adopted by the council. v BUY THE LARGE BOTTLE Nov/, at the beginning of winter, every home should be equipped with the large family size bottle of Baxter’s Lung Preserver. The 4/6 s size is most economical. Each dose of “Baxter’s” does so much good that this modest investment will pay big dividends in defeating coughs, colds, and bronchial ills, which few families escape each winter. “Baxter’s” has a tonic action, too. Also in 1/6 and 2/6 sizes.
