600 Joy-Seekers Follow the Band to Regimental Dance

MORE THAN GOO DANCERS ASSEMBLED IN THE TOWN HALL ON THURSDAY EVENING WHEN THE FIRST COMPOSITE MOUNTED RIFLES REGIMENT, NOW ENCAMPED AT KENSINGTON. PARK, HELD A MOST SUCCESSFUL DANCE.

By the time the dance was in full swing, the floor was crowded and space was taxed to its limits. In true military style, the hall had been decorated with multi-coloured flags, while the full-dress navy-blue uniform of the officers and the familiar khaki of the men completed the picture.

Prior to the dancing the regiment’s band played selections and a few minutes after 8 o’clock the dance band struck up the first tune, the crowd refusing to finish until an early hour in the morning. Among the principal officers present were Colonel N. W. McD. Weir, officer commanding the North Auckland military district, and Mrs Weir; Colionel W. R. Lang, formerly officer in command of the North Auckland district, now retired, and Mrs Lang; Major Clifton, Army Headquarters, Wellington; Colonel Pierce, commander of the regiment; Major Carruth, second in command of the regiment; Major Wood, North Auckland Mounted Regiment; and Major Jamieson, medical officer at the camp. The Dancers. M.C. was Staff-Sergeant-Major G. C. Andrews. N.Z.P.S., while the organisation of the dance was in the hands of Captain E. V. Fry. Among those present were. — Mesdames N. W. McD. Collision At Intersection

A slight collision between two cars occurred at the inter-section of King Street and Valley Road on Monday morning. The vehicles involved were a car driven by Mr Lloyd, junr., and an unknown car travelling south. Neither driver was injured and each car suffered only slight damage.

Induction Service For New Minister

The new Methodist minister stationed at Hikurangi, Mr C. Tolley, was inducted into his charge by Rev. H. J. Tozer, Whangarei, on Wednesday night.

Mr Tolley i-eplaces Rev. A. Sanft, who has taken up a new charge at Napier. At the conclusion of the service, which was attended by a fairly large congregation, supper was served by the ladies of the church.
