Germany’s South-East European Trade Increases
BERLIN, May 11. Germany’s trade in South-Eastern Europe increased 40 per cent, in the first quarter of 1939, compared with the equivalent period of last year. Exports to Britain were reduced onequarter, to France one-third, io Belgium and Luxembourg Hi per cent, and to the Netherlands 10 per cent.
The favourable balance of trade to South-Eastern Europe was £1,376,000, compared with an unfavourable balance of £3,064,000 in the last quarter of 1938.
The total of the old Reich’s exports was £100.992,000, and imports £103,152,000, but Greater Germany showed an adverse balance of £8,992,000.
