Paparoa
Mr A. D. Woodhead, a member of the staff of the Paparoa branch of the Bank of New Zealand, who will leave on Saturday on transfer to Wellington, was the guest of honour at a card party sponsored by the Paparoa tennis and the Paparoa golf clubs. A large crowd of members and friends attended and an enjoyable evening was spent in bridge and 500. Winners in the 500 section were Mrs I. W. Wright and Mr J. Fenwick, while the bridge prizes went to Mr G. Bell and Mrs A. J. Cornish.
During the supper interval, Mr E. G. Aickin, president of the Paparoa Tennis Club presented Mr Woodhead with a smoker’s companion set and eugolised his services to the tennis club as club captain. He had taken a keen interest in all that appertained to the welfare of the club and his departure would leave a gap in the ranks that would be hard to fill.
Mr P. S. Stratford, president of the Paparoa Golf Club spoke on -similar lines and said that in losing Mr
Woodhead the golf club was losing one of its most enthusiastic members^ Mr Woodhead, who was accorded musical honours, responded. Mr Woodhead was also farp welled at a smoke concert sponsored by the Western Football Club. The function, over which the president, Mr G. Peake, presided, attracted a large number of supporters. ' In proposing the toast of the guest of the evening, Mr . Peake said that during his residence Mr. Woodhead had been an active member of. the club both on and off the playing field. During the past season or two Mr Wpodhead had taken up refereeing and had made a success of his new responsibilities.
Mr Peake, on behalf of the club, presented Mr Woodhead with a leather attache case. ’ Mr Woodhead responded.
