Whangaroa By-Laws To Be Enforced

L Special to ‘'Northern Advocate”! KAEO, This Day.

On the motion of the chairman, the Whangaroa County Council decided at its monthly meeting in Kaeo on Monday that the by-laws so far as the. erection of buildings in the county were concerned, should be enforced, and that the county engineer be made building inspector. The discussion arose from an application for a pei’mit to erect a fish shop in Kaeo, and as the by-laws regarding permits had been neglected in the past, it was thought by the council it was time that steps were taken to supervise the erection and type of buildings built in the county. The engineer, Mr McAllister, stated , that he was not prepared to undertake the responsibilities of the position of building inspector unless the by-law’s were made universal. After a short discussion the meeting agreed that the by-laws should apply for the whole of the county, and the motion was unanimously carried.

This means that anyone wishing to erect any type of building, whether on a farm or in a township in the county, must first obtain a permit from the council.

Stricter Supervision Of Bicycles

t Special to “Northern Advocate ” 3 KAEO, This Day. According to a letter received at the monthly meeting of the Whangaroa County Council, held in Kaeo, from the Commissioner of Transport, Mr G. L. Laurenson, stricter supervision is to be employed by the traffic authorities during the coming winter. “Statistics indicate that the number of accidents to persons riding bicycles is still too high, and with the approach of the winter months, when bicycles will be extensively used during the hours of darkness, accidents may be expected to mount steadily,” the letter stated. Thg letter continued that all cycles should have an adequate light and not a torch held in the hand of the rider, and that a portion of the rear mudguard be painted white, with a reflector attached.
