Tinned Goods Running Short In Whangarei
.Sardines and herrings are becoming rarities on local grocers’ shelves.
Enterprising housekeepers, anticipating , a shortage of such imported tinned goods, have besieged the market with the result that only a few tins are now held on hand.
Wholesalers are reported to have only limited supplies on hand, and these are being rationed carefully. Unless import licenses are granted at the expiration ■ of the six months’ noliconse period, Now Zealanders will be without these tinned goods for some time. Meanwhile supplies are reaching a low ebb. For the past few weeks, country and town housewives, with a vision of
future shortage, have been building up reserves, some big orders having been taken by grocers in various parts of the town and district. Definite shortage has been reported in only a few cages, these being mainly for .refined and better qualify importations.
