Chungkings Dread Struggle
5 (Received 2 p.m.) •• ' LONDON, May 10. Marshal Chiahg Kai-shek has order- ' ed the evacuation of the capital, Chungking, by, all except able-bodied men. Diplomats and foreigners have ‘ been granted residence permits for ' six months. ■ Further details of last week’s bombi’ng show that the death roll far exceeds 4000. Hundreds of bodies were discovered in a single exit from dugouts, in which they were suffocated and were burned. Japanese rebombed Foochow and Nirigpo. A hundred houses were blown up.
