Roosevelt Ultimatum To Coal Strike Parties
[lndependent Cable Service .] WASHINGTON, May 10. President Rosevelt today issued a virtual ultimatum to both sides in the coal strike deadlock, urging them to submit by tonight a plan by which production can be immediately resumed. More than 500,000 miners are out of work, and many, industries are facing disastrous closure.
Major-General P. G. Mackesy, of the Imperial Army, is to arrive in Whangarei this evening and will be r. guest at the Settlers’ Hotel. MajorGeneral Mackesy, who is on loan to the New Zealand Government in order to report on defence needs pf the Dominion, arrived in New Zealand some weeks ago as a member of the British delegation to the recent defence conference at Wellington.
