Firm Values At Westfield

At the Westfield stock sale to-day. the Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., reported that their yarding of beef was an average • one. less number’s than last week being' penned. There was a ready demand, and, although quotations were the same, values w’ere inclined to firm. Quotations were;— Extra choice ox, 34/- per 100 lbs.; choice and prime ox, 30/- to 33/-; ordinary and plain, 23/6 to 29/-; prime young cow and heifer beef, 24/- to 27/-; ordinary cow beef, 17/- to 23/-., No extra heavy prime steers were penned.
Heavy prime steers made £ll 17/6 to £l2 17/6: lighter prime steers, £lO to £ll 15/-; light prime steers, £9 to £9 17/6; small and unfinished - steers, £6 to £8 15/-; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers. £8 10/- to' £9 17/6; heavy prime cows and heifers, £7 7/6 to £8 5/-; lighter prime cows and heifers, £6 7/6 to £7 5/-; light prime cows and heifers, £5 to £6 S/-; other killable cpws, £3 to £4 15/-.
Dalgety’s Report
Dalgety and Co., Auckland, report:— At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held today an offering of beef totalled 150 head, comprising 38 steers and 112 cows and heifers, against 194 head last week. The quality of the ox beef was fully up to average, and sold readily at very firm late rates. Cow and heifer beef also drew good competition, selling at values very firm on late rates.
Extra choice, ox sold to 34/ per 100 Ifcsf choice and prime-ox, 31/ to 33/; just killable ox, 27/ to 30/; fine young ccw and heifer beef, 24/ to 28/; just killable cow beef, 18/ to 23/; extra heavy prime steers ranged-in price from £l2 15/ to £l3 5/, for stores sold on account of Messrs Reid Bros., Opotiki. Heavy prime steers realised from £l2 to £l2 12/6; lighter prime steers. £ll to £ll 15/; light prime steers, £lO to £lO 17/6; small and unfinished steers, £4 17/6 to £7 10*; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £9 to £ 10 12/6, for cows sold on account of Mr J. A. Hill, Te Hoe.

Two military pilots and 20 civilians were burned to death when an army plane crashed in the town of Guayaquil, Ecuador, and the aeroplane petrel tanks exploded, setting fire to five houses.
A message from London says that the death occurred, after a fall from the top deck of a tramcar, of the once prominent airwoman. Mrs Reginald Williams, formerly Lady Heath.
