Japan Unable To Ignore British Moves To Russia

[lndependent Cable Service.] LONDON, May 9. The Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr. Hachiro Arita, speaking at a meeting of local governors in Tokio yesterday declared Japan was unable to ignore the British approaches to Russia. He added that the anticommunist pact must be strengthened to allow Japan to cope with the future international situation.

South African Response To National Registers

LONDON, May 8. A message from a Capetown news agency states that the members of the South African Cabinet and the mayors and councillors of the principal centres throughout the country wore the first to sign the registers, says a message from the British Official Wireless.

From all parts of the Union the response was excellent, old and young members of all trades and professions and many ex-soldiers placing their names on the registers.
