Germans Masquerading As Unemployed, Cause Poles Much Concern
LONDON, May 9. An official communique issued in Rome last night after a meeting of Italian army chiefs, including Crown Prince Umberto, Marshal Badoglio, chief of the general staff, Marshal Graziani, and General Pariani, chief of the army staff, was as follows; — “The subjects discussed were the measures already taken and about to be taken for the rapid preparation of the staff, the rapid rate at which the organisation of the frontier army is being perfected, and the measures being taken to put the army in a state of entire readiness.”
The Independent Cable Service says the attention of the Polish authorities has been directed to the large number of Germans who have recently been arriving on the western frontier from different districts in Poland, pretending to be unemployed seeking work.
The sudden influx of Germans, who have nothing to do with the local population nor any apparent reason for their presence, has caused the Polish Government to return 300 of them to their former places of residence.
