Yachtsmen Have Another Day Out
(By "Bowsprit.") The fine week-end was sufficient inducement for a number of the diehards to have another day out. The Macushla left on Friday evening and the Charm on Saturday. The launches mostly went down for the day on Sunday, and it was a very good day, too. Both Wild Thymes left the upper river together, and one of these boats mentioned this fact and made reference to this column, so I must make a note of it. Perhaps it will bo news to” both Mr Reed and Mr Hutchins that there is yet another boat of the same name on the river. This is a fairly now outboard craft, but ft is not painted red. This boat was built by the owner, Dick Roycroft, of DX fame. '‘Bowsprit” noticed a name flag on this boat, and, on closer inspection, saw that the letters spelt Wild Thyme. As the spelling goes, I suppose it is quite in order, but there are times when the last syllable should be just “Time.”
Les Waldron and Syd Guest arc going to make a third attempt at going to the Cape this coming week-end, and at present the prospects look brighter. After two disappointments, we wish them the 'best of luck and good fishing. The Waima went up for the winter last Saturday, and the Scud was hauled into her winter quarters on Sunday. The launch Loloma was hauled out yesterday, and will be givcfi a good dry-out before re-entering the water. Cliff Shoebi idge was busy last weekend on the Sceptre’s cabin top, and has the ship looking very different already. My Girl iiad a run down the ditch one day last week, and looked her old self. We had a visitor over the s week-end. The Tawa, a passenger boat, was out on a cruise. She loft again on Monday. Last Thursday evening the Cruising Club held their half-yearly general meeting. There was not much business done apart from the fixing of the dates for the prize-giving night and the annual meeting. After the meeting had adjourned, Mr R. Drummond invited those present to view his two boating films-. ■These were very interesting, and we enjoyed our regatta all over again. Several shots taken from unusual angles of the foreshore, at Onerahi had to be explained to be recognised as the colour films enhanced the hitherto unknown beauty of this spot.
Several views of the launches and yachts in racing trim looked very lifelike, and the whole showing was very much appreciated by all those fortunate enough to be present. These arc our first movies, and we hope that next season will afford opportunity for some more films to be taken. (Further Sporting- Topics on Page 3.)
