RACING NEWS

Back Again. P. Atkins has worked out the time of his suspension and will be riding at coming meetings. SO-1 Winner; Punter Drops Dead. A punter in the enclosure at the Bombay hunt meeting recently dropped dead when Darya Sarga won the Bombay City Plate. Darya Sargo won from a field of 16 and paid odds of over 60 to 1. Eye Trouble Recurs, L, J. Ellis has had a recurrence of the eye trouble that laid him aside some time ago. He expects to be all right after a short rest, but had to forego his engagements at Amberley last Saturday. Resumed Work. The chestnut, colt Gay Boy, who has been off the tracks for about a year, has resumed work at Awapuni. Gay Boy has lost none of his former speed, and it is expected to race him in the near future. He is trained by J. Kelly. Hurdling Recruits. Stargono and High Peer have been placed in charge of E. Pine, to be prepared for the hurdle department. The former has already had a few lessons, and his early displays over the jumps have been very encouraging. Rival Jockeys Now Rival Trainers. Two rival jockeys of the Australian turf were Jim Munro and Jim Pike. Now they are rival trainers, and both have won recent races. Jim Pike is doing well with Grey Derby and General Monash, while Jim Munro has a winning' two-year-old in Tel Asur. It will be interesting to follow the careers of the two Jims as trainers. Nearing His Best. The Riccarton trainer A. McMullan did well with Court Yard in hurdle races last winter, and his running atRiccarton at Easter was evidence that he was nearing his best again. He is destined for steeplechasing this year, and he will probably start a North Island campaign at Te Rapa this month. He should do well over the big fences. Best National Story. Perhaps the best story about this year's Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase concerns E. Foley, who rode Red Hillman. This jockey said: •‘At the first fence I jumped in company with G. Wilson on Under Bid. Wilson was falling out of the saddle when I reached out and pushed him back again, and in gratitude lie bought ! me a bottle of wine after the) race." \ Attractive Youngster. One of the most attractive rising two-year-old fillies seen for some time is Beaucoup, who has recently made her appearance on the tracks at Ellerslic. Bred by her owner-trainer, Mr C. M. Emanuel, Beaucoup, who is a daughter of Beau Pcre and Volapai, comes from the same family as Capris, Deputy Ruler and Royal Tea.
