The Reserve Bank return showing the position at the close of business on Monday, April 24, was gazetted last night. The statement is balanced at £31,784,495, or £623,533 more than at the close of the previous week. The sterling exchange reserve at £4.659,061 is £213,757 lower in value than it was a week earlier. The sum of demand liabilities is substantially higher, a decrease of £604,327 in the level of Government deposits being more than counterbalanced by increases of £851.933 and £217,981 in the deposits of the trading banks and the note issue respectively. The ratio has fallen from 26.305 per cent, to 25.11 per cent. Advances to the Primary Produce Marketing Department are £329,731 higher, those for other purposes remaining stationary at £12,075,000. Other assets are £503,778 higher.
