N.S.W. Labour Wants To Oust Lang
SYDNEY. April 27. The recent defeat of Lang Labour Party candidates at two State byelections has intensified the hostility of the modern elements against Mr J. T. Lang’s leadership of the State Labour Party, with the result that the Parliamentary Labour Caucus is now in open revolt, insisting upon his resignation, with a view to complete unity of the rival Labour factions in New South Wales.
The Parliamentary Caucus today decided, by 15 votes to 11, to invite the Federal Labour Party Executive to intervene in Labour affairs in New South Wales, for the purpose of bringing about unity, and presenting a solid front .against the Menzies Government in the event of a crisis in the Commonwealth Parliament.
During the debate, certain speakers openly suggested that Mr Lang should resign.
Mr Lang, in reply, is reported to have said that it was not the duty ot the caucus to make decision on policy. That was the prerogative of the annual conference, which also decided who should lead the party.
