Good Display At Autumn Flower Show
Autumn fohage and flowers from all parts of the Whangarei district were r.n their best display at the Whangarei
Daffodil Society’s first autumn show, held in the Presbyterian Sunday School Hall today. Particularly noticeable was the very fine display of autumn foliage and berries, a wide variety being entered tor these sections. The floating bowls were also a centre of attraction. Although there were not many entries in the children’s sections, the few that were before the judges brought forth pleasing comments. Pot plants were shown to best advantage, a large number covering a wide range of varieties being entered. Cake and Produce Stalls. Considerable trouble had been gone to by those entering posies and posy bowls, some intricate designs being worked with all sorts of flowers, berries and leaves. Unfortunately, the season has not been favourable to flower-growing, and the recent advent of rain tended to prevent many would-be exhibitors in their entries. Chrysanthemums were not displayed in large numbers, but there were some very fine specimens. Cake and produce stalls were organise d in connection with the show. Most of the proceeds will go lb the Fresbyierian Church Organ Fund. Commencing this afternoon, the chow will be in progress until i) o’clock tonight. Mrs Holliday was judge in all sections.
