Junior Pig Clubs For Northland?

“The calf club movement is dying and people are looking for something to take its place,” said Mr D. G. Morrison yesterday. He was speaking at the annual meeting of the Northland District Pig Council. A remit was introduced by Mr G. A. Morphett on behalf of the Kaingaroa Fig Club that junior pig clubs ;• be established to encourage the practical interest of boys and girls in the rearing and care of pigs, and to institute annual judging competitions. “This is a long-range attack on the decline of pig-killing despite the clubs’ activities,” said Mr Morphett. “The pig is the golden goose to the farmer.” Mr Morrison said that junior clubs had been started in Manawatu and other districts with considerable success. “Wiio’s going to do the work?” asked Mr Arthur Cates, Dargaville. Members considered that the matter could be handled by the council in conjunction with the Education Department, and the remit was carried.
