Rain Is Welcomed
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day.
Some relief from the exceptionally dry weather of the past two and a half months was provided in Auckland yesterday. Several sharp showers which fell yesterday, after light rain on Thursday, should prove of great benefit to pastures. Only about an inch of rafn has been recorded in Auckland since the end of January. After four days of heavy rain at that time, when a total of 5.12 inches was registered, the year’s total rainfall stood at 6.05.
The whole of March added only .20 Inches, and April 6 was a rainy day. Since then there has been no rain until Thursday, when the total for the year was 6.99 inches.
A message from Hamilton says, that fairly heavy rain fell yesterday, making a total of .67 inches since rain set in on Wednesday. A Press Association message from Blenheim states that Marlborough is still awaiting the breaking of the drought. The ram enjoyed by other districts during the past few days has failed to reach Marlborough in sufficient quantity to alleviate a situation which is of some gravity, particularly to the pastoral industry.
