Hukerenui’s Jubilee Social
As a grand finale to the 30th anniversary of the Hukerenui School, a social evening was held on Saturday night. Recapturing the spirit of the past, one lady arrived in "cow" boots and oilskin, which was the customary garb for d'ances in the "good old days." But not all ladies followed suit, and many of the evening gowns were the latest thing in style and colour. Proceedings opened with dancing, and several musical items were rendered by Mr J. G. Leckie and pupils. A song by Mrs R. Nesbit, of Kawhia. was also much appreciated. The evening 'attracted the largest gathering over seen in the hall, and every family in the district was rep-
resented. The hall was decorated in blue and white, the school colours.
Dancing continued until midnight, and a sumptuous supper was a feature of the function. Music for dancing was supplied by Mr and Mrs Cunningham 'and son. of Whangaroi. As the clock struck midnight everyone in the hall linked hands and joined in singing “Auld Lang Syne."
