Primary School Rugby In Northland
With every school in the district as an affiliated member, the North Auckland Primary Schools Rugby Union is now firmly established, the president, Mr K. M. Hayr, was able to report at the second annual meeting last night. . Those present were: Messrs Hayr (chairman), L. J. Brake (patron), D. Mcßae, G. Freer (Rodney), F. Tocker (Midlands), J. D. Finlayson Otamatea), C. Reed and E. G. Smith (Whangarei), C. Oliver and A. F. Brewer (Bay of Islands), J. Cowie and A. W. Masters (Mangonui). Heip From Parent Body.
Appreciation of the support given to the organisation by the North Auckland Union in helping in every way possible to place the younger body on a sound footing was recorded. By the full entry in the first primary school tournament organised on Roller Shield lines, and held last season, the need for such a fixture was shown definitely. Mr Hayr expressed the hope that such a tournament would be conducted annually. The country boys,' in particular, benefited by the week spent in camp. Material in the North.
“Our first truly representative North Auckland team proved that we have the material in the North,” the report stated. “To Mr. I. (“Bunny”) Finlayson, who selected and assisted in the coaching of this team, I wish to extend the thanks of the Schools’ Union. His services were of outstanding value to our boys. “With such men interested in our union I feel confident that the future of our North Auckland Primary Schools’ Union is assured.” Office-Bearers. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr L. J. Brake; president, Mr K. M. Hayr; vice-presidents, Messrs J. D. Finlayson and J. Draper; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. G. Smith; emergency committee, Messrs J. D. Finlayson, D. Barry and J. Draper, with president and secretary; delegates to North Auckland Rugby Union, Mr Hayr (ersident) and Mr F. Tocker f emergency). Allocation of free footballs supplied by the N.Z.R.U. is in future to be through the North Auckland Primary Schools Union to the primary schools sub-unions. The patron, Mr Brake, congratulated the Whangarei Union on the manner in which the tournament had been conducted.
Votes of appreciation were extended to Messrs Hayr and J. Rarity (then secretary) for their organisation work in connection with the tournament and Mr Hayr was also commended upon his managership of the Northland team in the Roller Mills Shield competition. Reference was made to the small expenses incurred for the trip to Auckland. Kaitaia Venue This Year.
The annual North Auckland tournament will be held this ye'ar aT Kaitaia in the first week of the August holidays, the organisation being left to the local primary schools union. The Bst 71b weight limit is to be strictly enforced in all primary school tournaments.
Subject to his acceptance, Mr Innes Finlayson was again appointed selector for the North Auckland Primary Schools team. Ruawai was permitted to play in the Ot'amatea competition. Northern Roller Mills Tourney.
In view of a suggestion made that the Northern Roller Mills tournament be held in the first week of the August school holidays, it was decided to inform the Auckland Primary Schools Union that if such an altsration was made, Northltyd would be unable to field a team. Provided the tournament was held as previously in the second week of the holidays, Northland would be represented.
