Town Tit-Bits
rpHERE has been much ado in Wha-
ngarei this week as far as parties are concerned, and of course the autumn meeting of the Whangarei Racing Club was an added attraction. On Monday evening the opening night of the literary circle of the Whangarei Women’s Club was held in the club’s rooms, and the six-act morality play, “The Woman and the Walnut Tree,” by Sidney Box, was presented. The reception rooms were charmingly decorated with bowls of pink and red dahlias, and the president, Mrs A. H. Crane, received the guests wearing a powder blue georgette gown. The convener of the literary circle, Mrs C. E. Woolley, was in floral taffeta. Those who took part,in the play were: Mesdames B. A. Wolff, R. C. Napier, D. J. Goodwin, W. L. Booth, J. Ross (Parua Bay), Harmon Smith, F. Walton, Marsden Woods, Misses BroughtonCarr (2), W. E. Lamb, A. Bennett and Joan Geissler.
On Saturday afternoon Mrs L. J. Waddell gave a very enjoyable mahjongg party for her two guests, Mrs Lord and Miss Ailsa Lord, of Auckland. Mrs Waddell chose a navy sheer frock in which to receive her guests, among whom were Mesdames G. W. Bennett, lan Tudehope (Wellington), Eric Thomson, Misses Evelyn Cleary, Connie Harrison and Vera Campbell. Another mah-jongg hostess was Mrs J. A. S. Mac Kay, and her guests were Mesdames G. M.
