Business Quiet On ’Change
t Special to ‘‘Northern Advocate”! AUCKLAND, This Day.
There was a strong demand on the Stock Exchange this morning for Australian shares, but New Zealand issues lacked support from buyers. Business was quiet, only two sales being made at the final call.
A feature of the reported sales was a transaction in Auckland Gas shares at the record low level of 15/-. The last sale in this issue, at the end of last month, was 16/6, and during March they declined from 19/-. Business in Rotoiti Timbers at 3/3 also showed a sharp drop. Among Australian industrials buyers raised their offers for Broken Hill Ptys to £3/1/- and for Woolworths. Sydney, to £l/3/-, holders asking 6d more in each case. Improved bids of £2 / 6/3 for Electrolytic Zincs, ordinary shares, and £2 11 3 for the preferences, failed to bring any response from sellers. Bank and insurance shares were
steady and Government stocks dull.
