Money Talks Raise Smiles At Ohaeawai

I Special to “Northern Advocate ”]

KAIKOHE, This Day,

A humorous incident arose at the meeting of the Bay of Islands executive cf sub-zone A 4, when it was suggested that businesspeople should bo asked to surrender the odd shillings and pence in their trading bank accounts ns a donation 1o the Centenary fund;;.

One of the members present asked the chairman what would happen to all the funds, considering that a large number of businesses were at present acting on an overdraft.

Finance caused another laugh when the organiser for Northland, Mr K. Hayr. suggested that the farmers of the Bay of Islands should adopt the system being worked by the farmers in ■the Mangonui. area, who were deducting a penny for every £1 in their, butter cheques.»

The farmers at the meeting emphatically stated that . they would be only too pleased to adopt the same scheme provided the deduction was made during the months of May and June, as they then would be receiving small payments from the factories. It was also stated that this season had been a perfect one for such a scheme, as butter production had been practic- . ally non-existent. .
