Kaitaia Board Meets In New Home
Meeting at Redan chambers for the first time on Monday evening, the Kaitaia Town Board was presided over by Mr J. T. B. Taafi'e. Bell’s Bridge.
Writing with regard to Bell's bridge the Public Works Department stated that the Lands Department was to contribute £750 towards the cost, leaving the hoard to find £213. Alleged Litter In Street.
The congestion of vehicles, benzine drums, and litter of all sorts at Wilson Moore and Co’s bowser pump was referred to by Mr Mclntosh.
The foreman said he had spoken to the owners about the matter. He had feeen a truck standing right across the road.
Mr Mclntosh; There is no consideration for public safety or convenience and an acident will happen there yet. The foi’eman said that blockages had occurred while drums were being emptied into the petrol tanks. The chairman: A reasonable time must be allowed for that.
Mr Mclntosh moved that Wilson Moore Motors be given 48 hours to remove all their impedimenta from the board's property, failing which they would be prosecuted. The motion was carried. Subdivision Near Reservoir.
A plan of subdivision of a block near the reservoir into three sections by Mr F. Puckey was approved. Disposal of Rubbish.
The sanitary inspector, in his report, thanked the board for provision made for regularly clearing the water channels of the main street, but urged that a suitable dump be provided for the disposal of the rubbish. He also urged that provision should be made for a weekly collection of rubbish from business premises. The town clerk was asked to communicate with a contractor in the hope of making suitable arrangements along the lines suggested by the inspectoi’. Regular Collection Suggested. Mr McKinnon said he took it that business people would be willing to contribute a small amount weekly. The town clerk: We can hire a horse and dray and put our own man on. Mr Mclntosh; Why not get a truck. The chairman; Truck are not always available. Open Drains In Kaitaia.
A plan was placed before the board from Mr Hooper, surveyor, giving the open drains in the town and their levels.
Parking Near Hospital.
The town clerk said he had been advised by the AA. representative not to permit parking in Redan Road opposite the hospital, and ho had suggested that a parking area be provided in the road running past Dr. Rule's. It was stated that from 10 to 30 motor cars parked opposite the hospital every Sunday afternoon. It was decided to have an inspection made. Narrow Comer. The bad state of a corner in Church. Road, near the Anglican Church was mentioned by Mr McKinnon. It was left with the secretary to make arrangements for acquiring land for widening the road. Gorse Must Be Cut. The danger from fire due to some sections being overgrown with gorse was referred to by Mr McKinnon and one section near the Presbyterian Manse was particularly mentioned. The town clerk: All property owners' with sections overgrown with gorse have been notified that the gorse must be cut. The necessity for having factory property, near the Dairy Company's office, cleared up by the county council was referred to by Mr Mclntosh.
