Big Tote Increase For Whangarei R.C.’s First Day
nESPITE RAIN, THERE WAS A GOOD ATTENDANCE AT KENSINGTON ** PARK YESTERDAY FOR THE OPENING DAY OF THE WHANGAREI RACING CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING. The track was cutting up slightly towards the close of the clay’s racing, but generally the rain had little effect on the going beyond taking the sting out of the ground. Overcoats and umbrellas were the order of the day. and ladies had little opportunity to display their race frocks.
The recent course improvements were the subject, of much favourable comment from owners and trainers, especially in the case of the new six furlong barrier, from which the horses now have a straight run out.
Dividends throughout the day were very good, and in no case were less than three dividends paid.
During the day the totalisator handled £16.362 10/- compared with £12,502 last year, an increase of £3860 10/-. Concluding results. —
The greatest surprise of the day was in the Trial Stakes, which event was Won by the little fancied Vaals colt Clipper.
