Friendly Societies
ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS
The usual fortnightly mooting of the Ancient Order of Foresters was held in the Friendly Societies’ hall on A.pril 4.
The Chief Ranger Bro. Price and P.C.R. Bro. H. Skinner presented reports on their visit to Court Balmoral. Auckland, remarking that the court's representatives who made this particular visit were greatly impressed by the excellent ritual work per formed by Court Balmoral.
P.C.R. Bro. Law. secretary, presented the district annual balance sheet, and also Court Victory's quarterly balance. There was a brief discussion on the Social Security Act insofar as the friendly societies were affected, there having been no definite instructions from the district office. It was decided to appoint an organiser for the purpose of getting into touch with all members, old and new, and to emphasise the fact that the friendly societies were the best and safest method of securing the benefits appertaining to the Act. An organiser was duly appointed. The social committee held another meeting to draw up a programme for the following quarter, also to finalise the present programme for this term. Bowls: The semi-finalists of the Fulljames Trophy are. Bros. Fyfe and Oldcorn v. Bros. NordStrand and Nixcy; Bros. Weston and Palmer v Bros. Ansley and Ferguson. Bros. Weston and Palmer won the fourth round against Bros. Farmer and Boreham. B—6.8 —6.
Cards: The Flewellyn card trophy tourney has made remarkable progress, and it is expected to be finalised on next quarter night, when It is anticipated that eight tables will be in demand. STAR OF WHANGAREI, 1.0.0. F. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Star of Whangarei Lodge, No. 89, 1.0.0. F. (N.Z.), was held in the Vinery Lane h.all on April 18. The Noble Grand. Bro. R. Waterhouse, presided over a good attendance. The usual lodge business was despatched in good time and at the conclusion the social side was well catered for. Supper was served.
