A resolution that the Government should be requested, in view of the unsettled international situation, to take adequate stops in the defence of New Zealand by bringing into force compulsory national service. was passed at the last meeting of the Kaikohe Town Board. Hawking of Fish. Having received a letter from Mr. A. M. Campbell complaining of the unfair competition of hawkers selling fish in the streets, it was resolved, on the motion of Messrs. C. E. Blow and E. Post Office Deferred.
Mi\ C. W. Boswell, M.P., wrote to the board enclosing a letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs advising that, owing to the magnitude of the building programme in hand, it would not be possible to deal with the case of the Kaikohe post office this year.
