Bay County Efforts Please Otamatea
LIGHTING MOTOR LORRIES
[Per Press Association. Copyright .] PAPAROA, This Day. Appreciation of the efforts of the Bay of Islands County in pressing for the provision of distinguishing lights on heavy motor lorries was expressed by Councillor E. R. Jenkins at Wednesday’s meeting of the Otamatea County Council.
“f see by the ‘Advocate’ ” said Coun cillor Jenkins, “that representations by the Bay of Islands County to have disdistinguishing lights on heavy lorries have had some effect on the authorities.
“In my opinion regulations in this direction should have been in operation years ago. Mistook Truck for Car
“When motoring home from Warkworth the other night I nearly had a serious accident when meeting what I thought was a car, but which proved to be a heavy, extra wide, transport lorry.
“We should support the Bay of Islands in their representations, and endeavour to have their proposals brought into the regulations as soon as possible.” Mr Aickin said he had raised the question some months ago when traffic problems were under discussion by the council. The provision of twin windscreen wipers should also be compulsory. After further discussion a motion on the lines suggested by Councillor Jenkins was carried unanimously.
