Mangonui Rate Collection Higher

Eighty per cent of the Mangonui County Council’s rates levied on Europeans were paid when the financial year ended on March 31. This compared with 67 per cent paid at the same time last year. Commencing with a credit balance of £1430, the council ended its financial year with ,a surplus of £1669. Receipts for the year ended March 31 totalled £35,524, as compared with £48,646 for the previous year, the difference being the amount received from the Employment Board and Mangonui Wh.arf Loan. Expenditure amounted to £35,285, as compared with £47,324. Low collection of rates in the Houhora Riding was due to the fact that two companies failed to pay rates amounting to £561.
